Podcamp Continued: Looxcie & Other Life-Changing Products
By Renee Mitson
Okay I promised I would tell you more about Podcamp. But instead of writing about the entire day, the ups and downs, I have decided to write about the products that got me really “jazzed,” so to speak. The first, and probably the best, is Looxcie.

Looxcie is a wearable camcorder. That in itself made me want to lose my mind. As someone who does not like to be in front of the camera but would love to share life experiences, this is amazing by itself. It is also a bluetooth. Pah, no one cares but cool, sure. The other super cool aspect is that Looxcie, which is currently compatible with Android phones allows direct streaming straight to YouTube, or anywhere really. If you have service you can stream in real-time to sites like LiveStream (oh no, I’ve ruined the surprise of my next post) and UStream.
By the way if you are picturing some kind of dorky helmet contraption like Gopher wore from Winnie the Pooh, you have missed the mark. Looxcie looks like a bluetooth with a little teeny lens attached. It fits into your ear so you can actually hear what the recording is sounding like right away. It takes SD card memory and you can upload it straight onto your computer if you do not have an Android phone or the know-how for live streaming.
Maybe I am not making myself clear. This is like the movie Being John Malkovich without the terrible camera work, and John Malkovich.
Did I mention it also records in high definition. And, it is isn’t even that expensive, its $200 even. So Cool.
Not that you haven’t already guessed but I plan on purchasing one straight off. Even the most simple footage can be so beautiful, like riding your bike through Boston at night, or say you were shooting a video journal on what it is like to be a dog (think the Beggin’ strips commercial) you could stick your head to the side of the car window and record a dog-like perspective of a Sunday drive. Not that anyone would do that…right?
